In the footsteps of Edvard Munch in Åsgårdstrand
Edvard Munch’s strongest bond with Åsgårdstrand developed in the period between 1889 and 1905. He would stay in his little cottage for months at a time every year: «Here, I have painted for more than 30 years, my best pictures as well as studies for the Frieze of Life».
Åsgårdstrand had a redemptive role for Munch as an artist and a painter of the psyche of modern humanity. The landscape became a recurring theme in his art: the curving shoreline and the full moon’s golden pillar over the fjord.
We will follow in the footsteps of Munch and visit his property, the little fishing cottage and its garden situated close to the shore.
After lunch we will return to Oslo for a guided tour of Munch’s «Freia Frieze», at the Freia Chocolate factory. All twelve paintings represent the daily life in Åsgårdstrand. We will end the tour at the Munch Museum.
The main tour takes place from 08:30 to 17:00 o’clock. Price: NOK 1,790 per person. This tour includes very comfortable transportation by bus Oslo – Åsgårdstrand – Oslo, a coffee-brake offering Munch’s favorite pastry at the Munch’s Café, 1 ½ hour guided walk in Åsgårdstrand and Munch’s house, a specially composed lunch at Grand Hotel, a guided tour of the «Freia Frieze» in Oslo, and finally a one hour visit at the Munch Museum.
These tours are available by pre-booking for 20 people. The price will be adjusted for smaller or larger groups than 20 people, and for shorter tours.
