In the footsteps of Edvard Munch in Oslo

Oslo is the city where Edvard Munch grew up and started out as an artist. This is also the place where he spent the last decades of his life. Today, Oslo houses the largest part of Munch’s artistic production, including his best known masterpieces. Join one of our Munch tours and get to know one of the greatest artists of modern times!

The main tour starts in the upper part of Oslo's main street Karl Johans gate, connecting Egertorget square to the Royal Palace, which ties together several places of significance in Munch's life. This is where Munch rented his first studio, right in front of the Parliament Building. A little further up the street is Grand Café, a popular hangout for artists in the late 1800s. Munch made many of his exhibitions at Blomqvist art gallery, then located in Karl Johans gate 35. In the same block Munch also exhibited in 1904 his magnum opus The frieze of life.

We continue our walk from Karl Johans gate to Pilestredet 30, where Munch spent seven years of his childhood. We proceed to the University of Oslo’s downtown campus, where we will have a short stop talking about the huge Aula decorations, such as The Sun and The History.

The tramway takes us away from the main street Karl Johan to the Ekeberg Sculpture Park on the hill-side of Oslo. We will have lunch at Karlsborg, enjoying the view on central Oslo and the New Munch Museum before walking to the vantage point where Munch got the inspiration to paint The Scream.

We will end this guided tour at the Munch Museum with a guided visit to selected rooms.

The tour takes place from 09:00 to 16:00. Price: NOK 1,250 per person. The tour includes transportation by tram, a light lunch (beverages not included), and entrance to the Munch Museum including 1 hour guided tour.

These tours are available by pre-booking for 20 people. The price will be adjusted for smaller or larger groups than 20 people, and for shorter tours (minimum 3 hours).
